aradoxical undersensing due to quiet timer blanking
r l h b w Inappropriate sensing of atrial and ventricular electrical ctivity is a common cause of pacemaker malfunction and is outinely screened for during pacemaker clinic visits. Unersensing is typically resolved by programming the voltage evel required for sensing to lower, ie, more sensitive, levls. This report discusses a situation in which, paradoxially, undersensing was resolved by progr...
متن کاملInterpretation of complex demand pacemaker arrhythmias.
Accurate knowledge ofpacemaker specifications provides the key to the understanding of complex demand pacemaker arrhythmias. This communication describes two examples of complex pacemaker arrhythmias related to the sensing mechanism of normally functioning Medtronic demand pulse generators. Oversensing of atrial voltage generated by an atrial parasystolic focus produced the first arrhythmia. Th...
متن کاملErosive Pressure Dermatitis Associated with Cardiac Pacemaker
Erosive dermatitis is a skin reaction associated with implantable cardiac devices (ie, pacemakers and cardioverter defibrillators). We report a 65-year-old man with a history of several cerebrovascular attacks who developed an erythematous crusted erosive patch over the pacemaker site after implantation of two subsequent pacemakers. We suggest that physical irritation may be a trigger factor fo...
متن کاملSubclavian crush syndrome: a cause of pacemaker lead fracture.
A 48-year-old male with a symptomatic 2:1 atrio-ventricular block and a dual-chamber pacemaker, implanted one year previously, was admitted due to a syncopal episode. Pacemaker malfunction was identified as the cause of syncope. Subclavian crush syndrome was the cause of the pacemaker malfunction. Its incidence, consequences and management are discussed in this report.
متن کاملPacemaker malfunction associated with proton beam therapy: a report of two cases and review of literature—does field-to-generator distance matter?
It is well known that radiotherapy causes malfunctions of cardiac implantable electronic devices such as pacemaker (PM) and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator because of incidental neutron production. Here, we report our experience with two cases of PM reset among seven patients with PM who underwent proton beam therapy (PBT) from January 2011 to April 2015 at our centre. Our experience sho...
